Outdoor Learning Wassail Fun

Wow! What a great day we had yesterday in our environment garden with Edd from Yeovil Country Park .

Everyone made an apple shaped pot from clay, traditionally used to pour apple juice in the orchards at Wassail to encourage the next harvest. Together each class made a coil pot which Edd will use at the Wassail festival next Thursday and they will then be returned to school.

At the end of the session, we all took turns to toast some marshmallows on a campfire. We learnt how to keep ourselves safe near a fire and how to check the marshmallows were not too hot before eating them. They were delicious!

We were all very excited to find 4 frogs living in our pond along with lots of tiny hog lice!

If you’re looking for more Wassailing fun, everyone brought home a poster yesterday about the Lantern Parade and Wassail Festival on Thursday 14th at Penn Hill Community Orchard.

A big thank you to Edd the Ranger and to John and Doreen who volunteered their time to help with the outdoor learning sessions.
